Stress & Burnout

Stress is a normal part of life, but when it becomes chronic it can lead to burnout, a state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion. Burnout can show up as feeling constantly drained, overwhelmed, or disconnected from work, school, or relationships. You might notice difficulty concentrating, trouble sleeping, irritability, or a sense that nothing you do is enough.

Burnout can affect anyone, but for neurodivergent people it often develops more quickly. Masking, navigating social expectations, managing sensory or cognitive demands, or juggling multiple responsibilities can increase stress and make it harder to notice early warning signs. People who are not neurodivergent can also experience burnout due to sustained pressure, high expectations, or lack of support.

Burnout is not a personal failure. It is often the result of prolonged demands without adequate rest, support, or strategies to cope. Recognizing stress and burnout is the first step toward recovery. Understanding your limits, needs, and patterns can help you build sustainable routines and reduce the cycle of overwhelm.
