Understanding & Support for ADHD and Autism

At Willow Creek Counselling & Psychotherapy, we are a team of neurodivergent therapists that provide tailored support to help individuals with ADHD and Autism navigate their daily lives and build meaningful connections. We offer support to those with or without diagnoses and have worked with a lot of individuals who were diagnosed late in life which can come with additional struggles to navigate. The owner of Willow Creek Counselling has ADHD herself and strives to support others who have similar struggles that she has faced throughout her life. Our approach is grounded in both personal and professional experience, allowing us to provide empathetic and effective care tailored to address the diverse needs of those with ADHD and ASD, offering tailored strategies to help clients better manage their symptoms and work with their brains rather than against it.

What Therapy That Works With Your Brain Can Look Like

  • You don’t have to mask. You can be your full self: stimming, fidgeting, pacing, info-dumping, going quiet, whatever your body needs.

  • Your communication style is respected. You can talk, type, gesture, or take pauses. You don’t have to make eye contact or talk “on the spot.”

  • Your sensory needs matter. Adjust lighting, volume, movement, temperature, or use fidgets. Therapy should feel safe for your nervous system.

  • Your pace is the pace. Some days you’re energized, some days you’re overloaded. Therapy moves with your energy instead of against it.

  • Your brain isn’t the problem, the world’s mismatch is. Therapy focuses on support and tools, not “fixing” you.

  • Clear, concrete communication. No vague instructions, no confusing expectations. The therapist checks in and explains things step-by-step.

  • Executive function support is built in. Forgetting tasks, losing track of time, overwhelm, or shutdowns aren’t failures: they’re signals to adjust the approach.

  • Your strengths are honoured. Deep focus, creativity, honesty, pattern recognition, sensitivity, fairness, passion: these are real assets.

  • Choice and flexibility. You get to choose what feels good: visuals, lists, talking, breaks, silence, movement, or structure.

  • Predictable and gentle structure. Sessions have a clear outline so you don’t spend energy guessing what will happen next.

  • Nonjudgmental curiosity. Meltdowns, shutdowns, avoidance, or emotional intensity aren’t “bad behaviour.” They’re understandable responses to overload.

  • Support that works with your brain, not against it. Instead of “just try harder,” therapy helps you build systems, not shame.

Accessibility & Accommodations

We work hard to make our
therapy as accessible as possible. You can choose sessions with the camera off, request breaks, ask for written or visual summaries, or let us know about sensory needs. Please tell us what helps you feel comfortable. If you have specific accessibility concerns or preferences, mention them when you book or contact us.
